This online unit is designed for you to review the basic skills needed to read and interpret band music. The links on the left include a variety of methods for you to practice counting, note naming, and identifying music terms and their definitions. First, I want you to "click" on the calendar. In the upper left hand corner of the calendar, you can select the month you wish to view. Our unit will begin in mid March (2009) and will conclude in mid April. Here you will find when assignments are due and what is expected from each assignment. Next, you will see a track. A track is a list of educational websites where you can practice your basic music theory skills. Use the fingering chart link to help you learn those new fingerings in the concert scales we are working on in class. Please see the calendar for scale test dates. In addition, I want you to notice the link to the track quiz. Towards the end of the unit, you will be asked to take the quiz to assess how much you learned by working through the links in the track. The LiveText Video segment illustrates the importance of counting and how rhythm counting is related to math. Please take notes as you view this segment in order to help you complete the worksheet that goes along with this video. Worksheet #1 is due March 19, 2009 Video Quia Quiz is due March 28, 2009 E-Sheet is due April 1, 2009 Worksheet #2 Track Quiz is due April 8, 2009 Hot List review is due April 9, 2009 The other Quia Activities/Quizzes will be used to help you understand the scales and music we play in class. The ALTEC toolbox is a link to a variety of music websites that you will enjoy learning about. Feel free to visit the sites that interest you. I hope you enjoy working through this online unit. It should be a nice change of pace from the worksheet packets :) |
